This paper describes the teaching of English as L2 in a specialized course for the Faculty of Education Studies at Verona University. It highlights the way in which Michael Lewis' "The Lexical Approach" (1993) moves away from traditional sentence grammar rule biased approaches to a focus on lexis as being the more significant system when creating meanings through language choices. The paper describes some of the ways in which this was applied in the classroom.
