In Italy, the science and technology parks present extremely different characteristics. The lack of a national system has determined the proliferation of local initiatives with distinct organizational models, dynamics and functions. We see therefore realities that have not emerged in a network context, i.e, a context of sharing of experiences and assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of their actions. The purpose of this contribution is to analyze a new and constantly-growing reality, namely, the Technology Park of Navacchio (Pisa, Italy), which is an organizational system that has been created to foster the conditions of a new innovation development in the system of small and medium enterprises, and to maintain the integration of the relationships between the economic system and the world of knowledge and scientific research. Nowadays it is fundamental to focus on the ideas that can become enterprise and on how the territory looks at the transformation process of knowledge into an engine for development, which needs to be harmonized. The question asked is “which are, and how is it possible to build, the organizational/functional conditions able to support this process, considering today’s lack of an organic system, the dimension of total fragmentation and the use of models still unable to grasp the reality of phenomena?” The research subject will be developed through a critical analysis of national and international literature and through an empirical analysis carried out with reference to the Technology Park of Navacchio. The purpose of the paper is to identify the functions and services offered by the Technology Park, in particular the enterprise incubation system, the findings obtained thanks to the integration operated at an organizational level, the implemented strategies of innovative development and the level of competitiveness achieved by the incubated enterprises. All of the above reflects upon an emerging entrepreneurial and managerial culture that could contribute to the renovation of the approach relative to the creation and development of enterprises and innovation within enterprises. The case study constitutes a unique experience in Italy relatively to the science and technology parks for the originality of the implemented organizational model, which is able to foster integration between enterprises, a prominent value-added of the relationship. The Technology Park of Navacchio has been able to build over the years a netlike system that has become a prime element for the development of innovation and competitive levels, for the dimensional growth of the enterprises that have settled there and for an effective relationship with the research world.
