Alveolar ridge augmentation for preprosthetic surgery has always appeared a challenging treatment. Through years, different surgical technique as well as natural and synthetic materials have been provided with the aim of replacing the jaws high. This need has increased even more with the development of the implant surgery as possible procedure to obtained a successful long term preprosthetic rehabilitation. Implant placement often requires the alveolar ridge augmentation to overcome the jaws anatomical limiting factors as consequence of the atrophy. Distraction osteogenesis is providing a new possibility in the development of an alternative technique for the reconstruction of the alveolar high in preprosthetic surgery.

Abstract
