The paper aims to analyse the dynamics triggered by the arrival of the communities of the Mendicant Orders in some cities and 'para-urban" centres of Emilia-Romagna. The location of the convents and any changes thereof are examined, as are the reasons and the processes underlying these choices. Finally, the study investigates the way the Friars related to the pre-existing reality and the changes they caused.
