In late 2016, three African States notified the UN Secretary General of their withdrawal from the 1998 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The withdrawals will take effect one year after the date of receipt of the notification: for South Africa and Burundi, and Gambia in October and November 2017, respectively.

Abstract
