This case report describes a rare displacement of a dental implant in the infratemporal fossa, which occurred during placement of the implant into the pterygoid process with computer-assisted technology. The implant was immediately removed by means of an intraoral approach to prevent any neurologic complications. Although computer-aided systems in implant surgery represent a reliable and effective tool, the surgeon should always instruct the patient on the necessary behavior during implant placement and the risks associated with a lack of adherence to these recommendations.

Abstract
This case report describes a rare displacement of a dental implant in the infratemporal fossa, which occurred during placement of the implant into the pterygoid process with computer-assisted technology. The implant was immediately removed by means of an intraoral approach to prevent any neurologic complications. Although computer-aided systems in implant surgery represent a reliable and effective tool, the surgeon should always instruct the patient on the necessary behavior during implant placement and the risks associated with a lack of adherence to these recommendations.File in questo prodotto:
