Innovation is one of the elements of a firm that contributes to better products and services, better financial performance and quality of life. It is said that innovation is a characteristic of large companies, thanks to financial resources and R&D process. But what about SME’s? Investments too play an important role in enhancing efficiency, future financial results and a company’s perspective. Are innovation and investments relevant for determining the company’s performance and reaction to the actual financial crisis? Are other internal factors relevant? Empirical findings from a survey addressed to SME’s of the Italian Veneto Region show that innovation in SME’s is not strictly related to performance but help for smaller falls in turnover in negative contexts.
