The paper aims at clarifying and proposing the methodology of research we elaborated as a strategic support for an aware protection and valorization of the abandoned industrial heritage. Therefore, we approached the topic from a multidisciplinary perspective, geared to identify the historical and economical dynamics involved in the realization of the industrial complexes, where architecture accomplish to a functional necessity. The methodology we mentioned is applied, in this context, to the case study of the Cold Warehouse of Verona, built in 1930 and abandoned in 1970. This singular building represents the architectural typologies of the industrial plants of the time, widely located in Italy and Europe. For an aware interpretation of the building we inquired into different aspects involved in its history, such as the socio-economic factors implicated in its realization and management, its localization in the urban context , the technical aspect of cold production, the architectural characteristics and the employment of materials, the architectural transformations due to the new technologies of industrial production. Data collected allowed us to assess, in an hypothetical way, a project of re-use, in a territorial prospection of urban, social and economical continuity. This work aims at demonstrating that researching for an historical, technological, architectural, social and economical knowledge is a fundamental basis for an aware adaptive re-use project, culturally conscious of the importance both memory and modernity.

Abstract
This work aims at demonstrating that researching for an historical, technological, architectural, social and economical knowledge is a fundamental basis for an aware adaptive re-use project, culturally conscious of the importance both memory and modernity.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
