An investigation of the intersections of history and memory in the representation of Caribbean-Scottish relations. The article, by drawing on theories gauged by postcolonial and memory studies, explores the intersections between constructions of Scottishness in the imperial age and the 'un/willing' amnesia of Scotland's involvement in the exploitation of slaves and slavery. It also focuses on the central importance of appropriate forms of memorialisation of slavery in present-day Scotland,considering the limitations of representation of traumatic events, and those posed by the discourse of the nation.
