In this article, the principles and techniques of input-output analysis have been applied to some management and organisational problems that are known to beset the relations between the parent company and a subsidiary company within a group. Attention has been focused particularly on those interactions that depend on ‘levels of control’, in other words on the extent to which the holding company ‘holds on to’ functions, thus affecting the degree of autonomy of the subsidiary.
