This paper aims at sketching the impact of Aristotle’s logic and metaphysics from Melanchthon to Hegel, a matter for which Leibniz plays a central role. Let me begin with Melanchthon. The three editions of his logic show a development from a Ciceronianism combined with Neoplatonism toward a recognition of the primacy of Aristotle. Like most Renaissance philosophers, though, Melanchthon felt a profound need of harmonizing Plato and Aristotle, whereby the latter, he said, should be considered for his clarity and the former for his depth.

Abstract
This paper aims at sketching the impact of Aristotle’s logic and metaphysics from Melanchthon to Hegel, a matter for which Leibniz plays a central role. Let me begin with Melanchthon. The three editions of his logic show a development from a Ciceronianism combined with Neoplatonism toward a recognition of the primacy of Aristotle. Like most Renaissance philosophers, though, Melanchthon felt a profound need of harmonizing Plato and Aristotle, whereby the latter, he said, should be considered for his clarity and the former for his depth.File in questo prodotto:
