This study focuses on the possible influence of the linguistic varieties of Spanish on simultaneous interpreting, with special emphasis on the phonetic level. To this end, a corpus of original speeches in Spanish by native and non-native speakers and their respective interpretations into English and French will be analysed. The aim is to observe to what extent phonetic and paraverbal features can be transmitted through the interpreters’ intervention from a sociolinguistic and multimodal approach. The results show that interpreters use strategies both to manage the interaction and, sometimes, to neutralise and optimise the features observed.

Abstract
This study focuses on the possible influence of the linguistic varieties of Spanish on simultaneous interpreting, with special emphasis on the phonetic level. To this end, a corpus of original speeches in Spanish by native and non-native speakers and their respective interpretations into English and French will be analysed. The aim is to observe to what extent phonetic and paraverbal features can be transmitted through the interpreters’ intervention from a sociolinguistic and multimodal approach. The results show that interpreters use strategies both to manage the interaction and, sometimes, to neutralise and optimise the features observed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
