This paper explores the potential of digital technologies to enhance literacy skills among poorly literate or illiterate adult migrants. Mobile-assisted language learning has emerged as a valuable tool for this vulnerable population, thanks to its ability to offer personalized and adaptive learning experiences. In the article, we describe a web application developed within the E-FraLit project (Employability and Fragile Literacies), designed to improve literacy among adult migrants with Italian as a second language. Based on this experience, we reflect on the critical role of digital literacy development, often overlooked yet crucial for utilizing these technologies, and provide insights into optimizing digital tools for literacy development in such vulnerable populations, thus ensuring their full societal participation in our increasingly digital world.
