This paper considers some late orthographic texts that may provide evidence of vernacular uses be-hind the incorrect orthographies rejected by these works. Some case studies are collected and dis-cussed from witnesses of the Appendix Probi, Consentius, Anonymous De nominibus dubiis and of [Caper] orthographic treatises to confirm their usefulness as evidence of substandard language use. The discussed case studies show the use of scholarly sources by late grammarians, which are helpful in providing the correct forms against the wrong ones. Not every discussed case study is substantial to these purposes, but it’s possible to collect some examples confirming the presence of evidence of vulgar Latin.
