Burn Wound Exudate: Depth of Burn Predicts Cellular Recruitment

Previous research has demonstrated a correlation between burn injury and systemic cytokine response. The systemic inflammatory response syndrome is thought by many Authors to be related to the outpouring cytokines from the burn wound. To date, there is no published data identifying the cellular makeup of burn wound exudate responsible for these cytokine levels, nor has there been an examination of whether cellular recruitment differs based on the depth of the burn insult. We processed wound exudate from burns of varying severity.
