A 14th-century rhythmic inscription from the Bazzano fortress. This paper presents an epigraph walled up in the 14th-century palace of Rocca di Bazzano. The date (1301) places it in a crucial period for Bologna: the historical moment when the war with the Marquis of Este and the internal struggles between factions marked the progressive institutional transition from free Commune to Seigniory. As proof of it, a considerable part of the inscription was subject to erasio nominis. The complete restitution of the text made it possible to appreciate its refined rhythmic form and testifies to the high cultural level of the Bologna ruling class.

Abstract
A 14th-century rhythmic inscription from the Bazzano fortress. This paper presents an epigraph walled up in the 14th-century palace of Rocca di Bazzano. The date (1301) places it in a crucial period for Bologna: the historical moment when the war with the Marquis of Este and the internal struggles between factions marked the progressive institutional transition from free Commune to Seigniory. As proof of it, a considerable part of the inscription was subject to erasio nominis. The complete restitution of the text made it possible to appreciate its refined rhythmic form and testifies to the high cultural level of the Bologna ruling class.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
