This essay aims to vindicate the philosophical import of Schiller's early novels, which are traced back to the "theory of novel" of Chr. F. von Blanckenburg. In the light of the latter, Schiller's early novels can be read as philosophical pieces about the authentically philosophical issue of the "Bestimmung des Menschen".

Abstract
