This article offers a new interpretation of Hölderlin's metaphor "exzentrische Bahn", which is traced back to the eighteenth-century debate about the "Bestimmung des Menschen". In this way, the astronomical expression becomes a tool to address key issues in the philosophy of history in the footsteps of Kant and Lessing.

Abstract

This article offers a new interpretation of Hölderlin's metaphor "exzentrische Bahn", which is traced back to the eighteenth-century debate about the "Bestimmung des Menschen".
