This article aims to reconstruct the personal and academic relationships between Aldo Neppi Modona and his fellow scholars of the Ancient World. These relationships are documented in the correspondence preserved today at the Gabinetto Vieusseux in Florence. The chronological period under examination is that from 1933 to 1940, during which Aldo had to face many difficulties, due not only to his failure to be hired by the Italian university, but also to the racial discrimination introduced by law by the fascist regime in 1938
