In 1854 Ippolito Nievo wrote a drama dedicated to "Gli ultimi anni di Galileo Galilei". Nievo's interest is entirely concentrated on the figure of the great scientist, presented as one of the noble fathers of the nascent Italian nation: the scientific results proposed in the "Dialogo sui due massimi sistemi" remain decisively in the background of the drama, which Galileo stages at the moment of the abjuration and then in recent years in Arcetri, between improbable court plots and dialectical clashes with Tommaso Campanella.

Abstract
