The 1st public opening of a public library in Pécs was attributed to Geörgy Klimo. The opening took place in 1774, but it was the final result of an intense bibliophile activity by bishop Klimo since his youth. Thanks to his relationships with many European and Italian Enlightenment’s personalities, the library became soon one of the main symbols of the European Enlightenment and of the second Hungarian Renaissance.

Abstract
