Abstract

In summer 1312 Cangrande della Scala sent a very important epistle to the Emperor Henry VIIth: this epis- tle displays the same range and the same sequence of sources which can be found both in a document draft- ed in 1306 whose content is partially attributed to Dante’s pen and in a couple of passages of the Monarchia. These elements, together with further evidences, strongly corroborate the hypothesis that Cangrande’s epis- tle was actually dictated by Dante himself.
