Intersecting cultures between Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Palimpsest’s stories in Verona, between Ravenna and Bobbio · Mainly placed at the border between Antiqui- ty and Middle Ages, the palimpsests (better known as codices rescripti) are still considered responsible for the ru- in of classical culture and civilization. This paper examines some reused manuscripts (both as codices and fragments) usually related to the earliest activity of the Bobbio scrip- torium in order to ascertain the correct origin of these mul- tifaceted items. In fact, many of them seem to have arrived in Bobbio from Verona, where the local cathedral (at least since the sixth century A.D.) worked like a real hub of late ancient manuscripts collected from many cities across northern Italy (especially from Ravenna).
