Periprosthetic fractures in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) are a frequent problem for the orthopedic surgeon. In last 10 years, the incidence of this pathology has interested 1,5% in primary THA and till 6-8% in Revision prosthesis. In this context, the authors performed a study on 24 patients (6♂; 18♀) surgically treated for periprosthetic femoral fracture at the Clinica Ortopedica e Traumatologica, University of Trieste, Italy. The Period is from Jenuary 2006 to December 2011. The Vancouver Classification system was used to classify the periprosthetic fractures.The choice of treatment was based on Vancouver Classification System, on patient clinical conditions and patients age.
