This paper presents the analysis of four Hittite verbal forms – ḫaluganniške/a-, ḫe(ya)wani(ya)-, šippandanna/i-, and takšanniške/a- / takšatni(ya)- –, which are often explained as anna/i-imperfectives. However, in my view, they should be understood in a different way, and this gives an opportunity to make some remarks about the origin of the Hittite anna/i-verbs class.

Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of four Hittite verbal forms – ḫaluganniške/a-, ḫe(ya)wani(ya)-, šippandanna/i-, and takšanniške/a- / takšatni(ya)- –, which are often explained as anna/i-imperfectives. However, in my view, they should be understood in a different way, and this gives an opportunity to make some remarks about the origin of the Hittite anna/i-verbs class.
