Psyche refers to the totality of conscious as well as unconscious processes and to the human forces that influence the thought and behavior, spirituality and emotion of each person. Soul, from the old English sawol, means the spiritual and emotional part of an animate existence, of a person belonging to the sea or coming from it. The workshop aims at identifying some hypnotic strategies to expand the patient’s inner awareness of his/her spirituality as a pathway to start the necessary change towards a fuller life. The workshop aims at showing the effective up-to-datedness of some ancient philosophical spiritual exercises and the universal wisdom of eastern spiritual meditation. The workshop aims at offering the participants several hypnotic experiences as well as the opportunity to learn how to create their own meditation with guide-lines offered by the trainers.

Abstract

Workshop Sometimes it can be fruitful to explore the etymology of words to find out their deep roots. Searching for the etymology of Soul, we discovered the Psyche within and identified what the two have in common in eastern and western culture. The Greek ψυχή, psyche, means soul, mind, spirit, breath, life, the invisible animating principle that governs the physical body. Psyche refers to the totality of conscious as well as unconscious processes and to the human forces that influence the thought and behavior, spirituality and emotion of each person. Soul, from the old English sawol, means the spiritual and emotional part of an animate existence, of a person belonging to the sea or coming from it. In some spiritual, philosophical, and psychological traditions, soul functions as a synonym for spirit, mind or self and is considered the incorporeal essence of each person. During the workshop we go back and forth from psyche to soul, from east to west, from philosophy to psychology, from medicine to spirituality.
