The article analyses some conjectures on Greek dramatic fragments, mostly tragic, proposed by Dutch scholars L.C. Valckenaer and J. Pierson. These conjectures were found at the University Library of Leiden, both in manuscript items and annotated printed editions. On the one hand, the newly unearthed textual solutions allow for the reattribution of several known conjectures, on the other, they contribute to our knowledge of the philological approach to Greek dramatic fragments before the advancement in this field that took place in the nineteenth century. Some ‘new’ conjecures are also presented and discussed, though they are of a generally lower quality than Valckenaer’s and Pierson’s already known conjectures.
