This first part of a more comprehensive essay gives an overview of the Turconi family living in Verona during the first half of the XV Century. Here they were running their business as speziali at the Saint Peter spice shop located on the market square in the city center, now Piazza delle Erbe. The spezieria and its interiors, along with books (including key pharmacy texts) and scales of various sizes are also described. The second part will describe in more details the goods on sell in the spezieria.
