The role of liver resection in advanced HCC is still controversial. We studied 464 patients with HCC and evaluated cthem for the treatment in relation to the severity of liver impairment and tumor stage. We concluded that liver resection can achieve good results in patients with single HCC and good liver function. Also multinodular HCC (from 1 to 3 nodules) could benefit from liver resection. The surgical treatment is only sometimes justified in selected patients with macroscopic vascular invasion or metastases.
Is liver resection justified in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma? Results of an observational study in 464 patients.

Abstract
The role of liver resection in advanced HCC is still controversial. We studied 464 patients with HCC and evaluated cthem for the treatment in relation to the severity of liver impairment and tumor stage. We concluded that liver resection can achieve good results in patients with single HCC and good liver function. Also multinodular HCC (from 1 to 3 nodules) could benefit from liver resection. The surgical treatment is only sometimes justified in selected patients with macroscopic vascular invasion or metastases.File in questo prodotto:
