A model for calculating the absolute intensity of the Raman scattering from optical phonons in β–silver iodide is proposed. The suggested mechanism is the dipole-induced dipole in the first-order approximation for spherical ions. The presence of ‘‘spillover’’ effects in the experimental spectra is taken into account by means of a simple calculation based on mosaically spread microcrystals. The experimental data are reasonably well fitted by the model, and a rough estimate of the quality of the samples is obtained.

Abstract
A model for calculating the absolute intensity of the Raman scattering from optical phonons in β–silver iodide is proposed. The suggested mechanism is the dipole-induced dipole in the first-order approximation for spherical ions. The presence of ‘‘spillover’’ effects in the experimental spectra is taken into account by means of a simple calculation based on mosaically spread microcrystals. The experimental data are reasonably well fitted by the model, and a rough estimate of the quality of the samples is obtained.File in questo prodotto:
