Herpes Simplex Virus type 1-infected cells were extracted in the presence of 0.25% Triton X-100-0.2 M NaCl. Viral DNA associated with proteins was found in the supernatant after low-speed centrifugation. Only viral DNA was recovered by this procedure, as shown by CsCl density analysis after deproteinization. Full-length viral DNA molecules were observed in the electron microscope. © 1979.
