The discovery of face-sensitive and body-sensitive regions in the extrastriate human cortex has raised the problem of the relations of these areas to face and body knowledge and their role in person identification. In this commentary, I point to some as yet unexplored aspects of these cortical regions, including their status as proper anatomo-functional areas, the role of body appearance in the recognition of persons, and the development of body-related and face-related areas in sighted and congenitally blind individuals.

Abstract
