Narrative Medicine tends to leave aside the sickscape, i.e. the social represen- tation of illness. This is a failed opportunity for two reasons: avoiding the sickscape makes ill and illness de-socialized and there is no possibility for managing the stigma that characterizes many diseases: health, disease and death can not be reduced to their organic evidence, because they are influenced by society; social context produces social representation of illness that adversely affect the illness experiences, which are Nbm subject of interest: stigma and its management is particularly complicated in cases of invisible disease. Aim of this contribution is the discussion of these two points.

Abstract
Narrative Medicine tends to leave aside the sickscape, i.e. the social represen- tation of illness. This is a failed opportunity for two reasons: avoiding the sickscape makes ill and illness de-socialized and there is no possibility for managing the stigma that characterizes many diseases: health, disease and death can not be reduced to their organic evidence, because they are influenced by society; social context produces social representation of illness that adversely affect the illness experiences, which are Nbm subject of interest: stigma and its management is particularly complicated in cases of invisible disease. Aim of this contribution is the discussion of these two points.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
