The subject area of semantic classes of nominal predicates (“object classes”) which depict events has long been ignored in German and Italian linguistics. The event depicting nominal predicates can be classed into three main event object classes, <accidental>, <created> and <cyclical> events, and into other object subclasses forming semantic descriptors in German and Italian. The classification of nominal predicates which depict events suggested in the present article with reference to German and Italian demonstrates that object classes can be considered an appropriate model for lexicographic purposes as they reduce ambiguity in the lexicon and represent it extensively.
