This study demonstrates that high serum levels of leptin are predictive of a low risk of nontraumatic fracture. This analysis was not a predefined aim of the original Bruneck Study but a post hoc decision stimulated by the recently emerging data on the role of leptin in bone metabolism.

Abstract
