Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease that normally runs a benign course in the majority of patients.However in up to 20% of individuals the disease is severe and may be associated with a mortality close to 20%.Over the last 5 years a number of developments in the management of pancreatitis have evolved and these developments are having an impact in the treatment of patients, lowering the morbidity and mortality.The aim of this working party report is to incorporate the new developments in the treatment of pancreatitis into recommendations and guidelines for practice.
