Microneurosurgery and radiosurgery have made tremendous progress in terms of increasing efficacy and reducing treatment related morbidity. Both techniques have clear indications; however, there is still competition benveen the two modalities in a variety of diseases. In all instances, this rivalry should be replaced by the concept of using both methods as complementary. Skull base tumours, metastases, intracranial schwannomas, low-grade gliomas as well as selected cerebral arteriovenous malformations are good candidates for this approach. The authors report their experience with a combined MS-RS approach in different types of intracranial lesions.

Abstract
Microneurosurgery and radiosurgery have made tremendous progress in terms of increasing efficacy and reducing treatment related morbidity. Both techniques have clear indications; however, there is still competition benveen the two modalities in a variety of diseases. In all instances, this rivalry should be replaced by the concept of using both methods as complementary. Skull base tumours, metastases, intracranial schwannomas, low-grade gliomas as well as selected cerebral arteriovenous malformations are good candidates for this approach. The authors report their experience with a combined MS-RS approach in different types of intracranial lesions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
