Diomedes’ Ars Grammatica is transmitted primarily through three ninth-century manuscripts. However, Book I of the work, currently the subject of a new critical edition following that of H. Keil (1857), is also attested, in the form of excerpta or reworkings, in several well-known grammatical miscellanies. This paper presents the results of an investigation into these witnesses, which offers valuable insight both for the establishment of Diomedes’ text and for the reconstruction of its circulation, as well as for a fuller appreciation of the role this manual likely played in the teaching of Latin in the Carolingian context.

Abstract
Diomedes’ Ars Grammatica is transmitted primarily through three ninth-century manuscripts. However, Book I of the work, currently the subject of a new critical edition following that of H. Keil (1857), is also attested, in the form of excerpta or reworkings, in several well-known grammatical miscellanies. This paper presents the results of an investigation into these witnesses, which offers valuable insight both for the establishment of Diomedes’ text and for the reconstruction of its circulation, as well as for a fuller appreciation of the role this manual likely played in the teaching of Latin in the Carolingian context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
