Le iscrizioni rinvenute a Verona nelle necropoli romane situate lungo la via Postumia (scavi della Soprintendenza Archeologica del Veneto, 1989-1991)

This papers presents the scientific edition of the funerary inscriptions found in Verona during excavations carried out in 1989 and 1991 along the via Postumia, between Porta Palio and Spianà. Here, investigations of the Soprintendenza Archeologica del Veneto during infrastructure works connected with the 1990 World Cup led to the discovery of a large area with over 1,300 burials, dating from the 1st century AD to the early 4th century AD. The study of the monumental supports and the analysis of the formulas used and the names of the individuals mentioned in the texts allow all the inscriptions, with the exception of a stele dating back to the 3rd century AD, to be attributed to a period between the end of the 1st century BC and the first half of the 1st century AD. Of particular interest is the discovery of pre-worked and uninscribed monuments, which are useful indicators of the production practices of local stonemasonry workshops.
