In this paper we describe a sample of bilingual vocabularies between Spanish and an Amerindian language compiled in Mexico by the Instituto Lingüístico de Verano / Summer Institute of Linguistics in the 1950s. To narrow down our study, we restricted our analysis to dictionaries of the Oto-Manguean and Mayan language families and, within these, we selected seven works belonging to different linguistic subgroups. In addition to presenting the nomenclature referring to three representative letters (A, M, and T) of the dictionaries under review, we explore the similarities and differences found in their microstructure. The conclusions point to concurring factors that explain their variance, such as the languages’ specificity and the lexicographers’ individual practice.
