The accession to the throne of the two brothers Ratchis and Aistulf forced a different policy of control at the northern Alpine borders of the Lombard kingdom through the issuing of specific clauses. The new chronological order of Aistulf and Ratchis’ clauses discussed in this paper, and consequently the importance given to some international political decisions taken between 750 and Summer 751, makes the fall of Byzantine Ravenna and the disappearance of the exarch an even more significant turning point for the history of the Italian peninsula in the 8th century.

Abstract
The accession to the throne of the two brothers Ratchis and Aistulf forced a different policy of control at the northern Alpine borders of the Lombard kingdom through the issuing of specific clauses. The new chronological order of Aistulf and Ratchis’ clauses discussed in this paper, and consequently the importance given to some international political decisions taken between 750 and Summer 751, makes the fall of Byzantine Ravenna and the disappearance of the exarch an even more significant turning point for the history of the Italian peninsula in the 8th century.File in questo prodotto:
