In this essay, we will 1) outline the theoretical framework on which the MelArete programme is rooted, which conceptualises an education on friendship in the perspective disclosed by the philosophy of care and the ethics of virtues; 2) briefly compare the theory underlying MelArete with the main cultures in ethical education presented in the international literature; 3) describe one of the educational activities proposed to the children in the MelArete programme, specifically an activity that fosters their reflection on friendship, sparked by the selected thoughts of important philosophers; and 4) present and comment on data collected from the implementation of this activity in some Italian kindergarten and primary school classes.
