This paper aims to understand the nature and use of gesture within the scenic purposes of Seneca’s tragedy. The investigation is structured on two levels: on the one hand, gestures are motivated by the expressive characteristics of Seneca's philosophy and are interpreted as reflecting a truly tragic aesthetic; on the other, the nature of gesture contributes to reflection on the way in which dramatic texts are experienced, which engages both the emotions and the spectator's attention and critical judgment.

Abstract
This paper aims to understand the nature and use of gesture within the scenic purposes of Seneca’s tragedy. The investigation is structured on two levels: on the one hand, gestures are motivated by the expressive characteristics of Seneca's philosophy and are interpreted as reflecting a truly tragic aesthetic; on the other, the nature of gesture contributes to reflection on the way in which dramatic texts are experienced, which engages both the emotions and the spectator's attention and critical judgment.File in questo prodotto:
