Here, after an initial section describing the economic characteristics of the Venetian mainland territories where Paolo was born – the Terraferma, whose economy seems to have been much more prosperous than was thought until a few years ago – we go on to focus on the importance of artists’ accounting records and all the information we might have obtained had records survived for Veronese as they do for the Bassani, Paolo Farinati and Lorenzo Lotto. A final section is centred on the economic organisation of Venetian Renaissance artists’ workshops and their interests in the acquisition of land and financial and mercantile investments. We will thus have the opportunity to analyse the figure of Veronese from a different, non-traditional perspective, highlighting aspects of his activity that are lesser known or not usually taken into account.

Abstract
Here, after an initial section describing the economic characteristics of the Venetian mainland territories where Paolo was born – the Terraferma, whose economy seems to have been much more prosperous than was thought until a few years ago – we go on to focus on the importance of artists’ accounting records and all the information we might have obtained had records survived for Veronese as they do for the Bassani, Paolo Farinati and Lorenzo Lotto. A final section is centred on the economic organisation of Venetian Renaissance artists’ workshops and their interests in the acquisition of land and financial and mercantile investments. We will thus have the opportunity to analyse the figure of Veronese from a different, non-traditional perspective, highlighting aspects of his activity that are lesser known or not usually taken into account.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
