«Il dolore ciascuno deve soffrirlo da sé»: la solitudine nera di Buzzati

The paper aims to examine the various facets of solitude depicted by Buzzati in the crime reports published in the «Corriere della Sera» and the «Corriere d’informazione» in the post-war period. Moving beyond mere chronicles, the trajectory of solitude traced by the journalist encompasses all characters involved in the dramatic events recounted: the victims; those who suddenly find themselves bereft of a relative, child, or friend; and even the perpetrators themselves. All are indiscriminately affected by a complete lack of solidarity, the absolute indifference of humans in the face of death and others' suffering, and the absence of communication. In this context, places and objects also take on symbolic meaning, representing a situation of unavoidable abandonment and painful isolation.
