This paper’s interest is to show the way in which a forthcoming termbase, the Red Terminológica del Comercio en Español(ReTeCE), can turn into a resource for learners of Spanish as a foreign/second language in order to learn the specialised lexicon of trade and, in particular, its variation. Given this interest, some of ReTeCE’s features will be depicted, especially those reflecting denominative (two or more lexical forms for the same concept) and conceptual (two or more concepts associated to the same lexical form) variation, on the basis of their textual, thematic, and especially chronological and geographical usage conditionings. Because of this, the building of a specialisedcorpuswill be firstly introduced,and the design of a terminological entry leading to the creation a digital interface capable of reflecting the connectivity between the linguistic, interlinguistic-traductological and distributional features assigned to each term will be consequently explained,bearing in mind the eventual benefits of ReTeCEfor the teaching of Spanish as a foreign/second language. Therefore, considering the ReTeCE’s properties taken into scrutiny, some possible ways in which learners of Spanish as a foreign/second language can make use of thetermbase in order to broaden their knowledge and awareness of terminological variation in a specialised field are finally suggested at the end of the paper.
