La marittimità nazionale finalmente riconosciuta con l’istituzione di una Zona Economica Esclusiva (legge 14 giugno 2021 nr. 91)

The volume highlights the specific characteristics of that part of the sea which goes by the name of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), according to the international law of the sea. Unlike other parts of the sea (such as inland waters, the territorial sea and the continental shelf), the EEZ and the rights that flow from it are not automatically possessed by all states that have access to the sea. The EEZ needs to be claimed by each state through a specific act establishing it. Only recently, in fact, Italy finally did so with Law No. 91 of 14 June 2021 (entry into force on 8 July 2021). For our country, therefore, this is an institution that is still waiting properly to see the light of day and whose potential is largely unexplored. The book therefore offers a contribution in the direction of bridging and possibly catching up with this delay.
