This paper aims to analyse five supposed occurrences of ‘metrical tmesis’ in Pindar, i.e. the separation of a verb from its preverb by verse-end: Ol. 1, 57, ὑπερ- / κρέμασε; 6, 53, ἐγ- / κέκρυ- πτο; Pyth. 4, 211, ἀν- / ήλυθον; Isthm. 3, 18, ἐξ- / άλλαξεν (with Bacchyl. Ep. 5, 74, ἐξ- / είλετο); Isthm. 6, 8, κατα- / σπένδειν. These passages are reconsidered in order to understand this ‘poetic licence’ in the light of its performative implications, Pindar’s style, and Homeric antecedents.

Abstract
These passages are reconsidered in order to understand this ‘poetic licence’ in the light of its performative implications, Pindar’s style, and Homeric antecedents.File in questo prodotto:
