This article examines the narrative transformation undertaken by Migoya and Seguí in their adaptation of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán's 1974 novel Tatuaje into the 2017 graphic story of the same title. It explores the distinctive capabilities of sequential art in this graphic reinterpretation, emphasizing how visual storytelling adds depth and nuance to the narrative. Moreover, in translating graphic narratives, the translator must skillfully navigate the intricate relationship between text and image, which presents unique challenges compared to translating purely textual works. Employing Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS) as a framework, this article also highlights specific challenges encountered in the Italian translation, Tatuaggio (2018).
