L'Annuario di Alessandro Della Seta

During the years of his direction (1919-1938), Alessandro Della Seta identified the international affirmation of Italian archaeology as one of the main objectives of the IASA. Della Seta considers the «Annuario della Scuola Archeologica di Atene e delle Missioni Italiane in Oriente» to be the main instrument for pursuing this goal. The following pages trace the history of the scientific journal of the School during the years of Della Seta's administration, highlighting not only its general organisation, editorial choices and logistical problems, but also its ideology and its fundamental spirit. The proposed reconstruction is based on the analysis of administrative documents of the time kept in the archives of the Italian Archaeological School in Athens. The aim is to trace the overall picture of one of the most characteristic editorial phases of the journal, which today, 108 years after its foundation, celebrates its 100th volume.
